"Lucky"
As told by Lucky to Mila Rizzo
Why
this had to happen to me?
Yes,
I was born. I entered the world as one of seven little tykes who looked
just like me. Our mommy loved us so much, licked our little bodies,
kept us warm and fed us delicious milk. When we opened our eyes, we
saw just how big and beautiful she was, like a purebred German shepherd.
Life was easy and life was good. We ate, we played, we slept. Until
that HORRIBLE DAY!!! Day I will never forget! In came this being who
called himself a human. He gathered us all up (we couldn’t even
say bye to our mommy) and carried us away. This so called “human”
brought us to this strange place in the woods, far away from everybody
and just left us there. We did not know what to do, we were so little,
our mommy did not have a chance to teach us how to survive on our own.
We were hungry, we were thirsty, and OH, we were so scared! Then it
was dark and it was cold, all these strange noises, we tried to huddle
together to keep warm, but hardly could.
Then the next day came, no mommy, no food and no warmth! To make this
horrible story short, my brothers and sisters did not make it. They
died- their little bodies still huddled together. It was a miracle that
I was alive. I cried and cried for help. Then guess what? Another miracle
happened. These humans were riding horses nearby and heard my cries
for help! They found me hiding in tall grass and scared out of my mind.
They picked me up, hugged me and carried me to their home. They named
me Lucky, fed me, looked after me and life was good again. They also
called this Lancaster Humane Society shelter to tell them how they found
me and about my dead brothers and sisters left behind. The Lancaster
society people are still trying to find out who did this horrible thing
to us.
Bad luck again, the lady who found me, already had had three dogs and
could not keep another one where she lived. She brought me to the Lancaster
Humane Society shelter for homeless and unfortunate critters such as
myself. I was a little scared. I thought here we go; I am being left
again, what is going to happen to me? But it wasn’t bad, not bad
at all. I was really loved there. They gave me good food, toys, lots
of attention and let me run wild in their big fenced in yard. My bad
luck finally ended few days ago. I got adopted! I had my picture taken
just like the one you can see here. They put my picture in the newspapers
and these very nice people saw it and came to get me. They already have
one little beagle girl from this shelter. She had a lot of problems,
but they did not give up on her, so I hope I’ll be a keeper as
well.
Lucky
P.S.
My new parents called the Lancaster Humane society already to tell them
how much they love me and that I am definitely a keeper.
